Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a cross, the four arms of equal length but the horizontal arms double in width, divided horizontally  with the upper portion blue and the lower orange; the upper portion charged with three silver Ts, one and two, cross piece reversed and the lower portion with the like, two and one with cross piece at top all between two closed silver wings issuing from the top arms of the blue portion and right and up from the lower arms of the orange.

Symbolism
Ultramarine blue and golden orange are the colors for Aviation units.  The wings and cross simulate rotary wing aircraft, and their position is used to represent both the control and evacuation aspects of the organization.  The complementary colors allude to the units wide scope of operation and the small Ts, refer to the three to seven aviation transport companies under the units command and supervision.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 23 February 1968.

NOTE:  A coat of arms was never approved for this Battalion.
